Brazilian President: Will not talk to Trump but will call PM Modi and Xi Jinping

New Delhi: Tensions between Brazil and the United States have erupted. Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, the president of Brazil, turned down US President Donald Trump’s invitation to speak with him at any moment over tariffs.

Lula made it plain that he would contact Chinese President Xi Jinping and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi instead of speaking with Trump. America’s 50% tax on Brazil was the catalyst for this dispute.

Lula had called the day the tariff went into effect the “saddest” day in both nations’ histories. At a gathering in Brasilia, he said that Brazil will now use all available means, including the World Trade Organization (WTO), to safeguard its interests.

Additionally, Lula said that his administration has already begun bolstering international commerce and looking into new prospects with the BRICS nations.

I’m going to call Lula da Silva, PM Modi

Since Trump is “not ready for talks,” Lula made it apparent that he is not in the mood to speak with him. “I’ll call PM Modi and Xi Jinping,” he said. Putin can’t travel at the moment; therefore, I won’t contact him. However, I will speak with several other presidents.

BRICS includes nations such as China, Russia, and India. These nations are often accused by the US of undermining the dollar hegemony. Trump has threatened to levy an extra 10% tax on nations that back the BRICS initiative.

In spite of this, Lula took a moderate stance, stating that he would extend an invitation to Trump to attend the COP30 climate meeting in November in Belem, Para, Brazil. “I’ll call Trump for COP30 to find out his thoughts on the climate issue,” he said. It is his desire if he does not show up, but I will not be held accountable.”

Brazil is prepared to discuss tariffs with the United States, but…

Lula emphasized that while Brazil is willing to engage in tariff negotiations with the United States, “equality and mutual respect” must be maintained.

At the White House on Friday, however, Trump told reporters, “Lula can talk to me anytime.” While praising the Brazilian people, he said that the government was making poor choices.
