Addressing the BJS National Convention 2024, BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis highlights the alarming drop in groundwater levels

According to statistics published by the Center, Maharashtra is the only state where the water table has lately increased, Fadnavis said, defending government measures.

“Until water problems are resolved, we cannot stop farmers from killing themselves. Water conservation is the only way to address Maharashtra’s persistent 50% water shortage, according to Fadnavis.

“A water table study released by the federal government in 2020 presented a very concerning picture. With the exception of Maharashtra, where it had increased, the water table had decreased in every Indian state. “I think the BJS, Aamir Khan’s Paani Foundation, and Nana Patekar’s Naam Foundation deserve the credit for this,” he said.

In Maharashtra, farmers’ suicides continue to be a serious problem. Farmers voiced their displeasure with government officials’ inadequate help during the just finished Maharashtra Assembly elections.

The National Crime Records Bureau reports that in 2022, 37.6% of all farmer suicides nationwide occurred in Maharashtra.
