Election2026 – Actor-turned-politician Vijay is set to take charge in Tamil Nadu after his party emerged as the leading force in the 2026 Assembly elections.

Election2026 vijay tamil nadu win

Actor-turned-politician Vijay is preparing to form the next government in Tamil Nadu after his party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), delivered a major performance in the 2026 Assembly elections. According to party sources, the swearing-in ceremony could take place as early as May 7. The development marks a significant shift in the state’s political landscape, which has long been dominated by the DMK and AIADMK.

TVK Emerges as the Largest Party

The TVK secured 108 seats in the 234-member Tamil Nadu Assembly, placing it ahead of all other political parties in the state. Although the party fell short of the majority mark of 118 seats, it quickly gained support from alliance partners and other opposition groups.

The Congress party, which won five seats in the election, officially extended support to Vijay. With this backing, the TVK-led alliance reached a total of 113 seats. Party leaders are also expecting additional support from smaller allies, including the CPI, CPM, and VCK, each of which secured two seats.

Congress Extends Formal Support

Congress leader Praveen Chakravarthy confirmed that party representatives met Vijay and handed over a formal letter of support. He also stated that Vijay held conversations with senior Congress leaders Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi over the phone.

According to Chakravarthy, Vijay thanked the Congress leadership for its support and invited them to attend the swearing-in ceremony expected to be held on Wednesday. The move is being viewed as an important step toward stabilising the alliance and ensuring a smooth government formation process.

DMK Faces Major Electoral Setback

The election results brought disappointment for the DMK, which managed to secure only 59 seats in the Assembly. The outcome is being considered one of the party’s toughest electoral setbacks in recent years.

A major talking point from the results was Chief Minister MK Stalin losing the Kolathur constituency, widely regarded as one of his strongest political bases. The seat was won by a TVK candidate, further highlighting the growing influence of Vijay’s party across the state.

Political observers believe the results indicate voter interest in alternative leadership and a shift away from the traditional two-party competition that has defined Tamil Nadu politics for decades.

AIADMK Finishes Behind TVK and DMK

The AIADMK secured 47 seats in the election, placing it third behind TVK and DMK. While the party retained support in several regions, it was unable to regain enough ground to challenge for power.

The emergence of TVK as a dominant force has significantly changed the electoral equation in Tamil Nadu. Analysts say the results may lead to a broader political realignment in the state ahead of future national and regional elections.

Focus Turns to Government Formation

With support negotiations continuing, attention has now shifted toward the formal government formation process. TVK leaders remain confident that the party will secure the required backing to comfortably cross the majority threshold.

Security and administrative preparations are reportedly underway for the swearing-in ceremony. Senior political leaders and alliance representatives are expected to attend the event if the final arrangements proceed as planned.

The 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly election is already being described as one of the most transformative political moments in the state’s recent history, largely due to Vijay’s rapid rise from cinema to mainstream politics.
