Supreme Court vs. Allahabad High Court: There is a fresh dispute before the courts. A front has been put up against the judge. The dispute between the High Court and the Supreme Court has surfaced. A few days ago, the biggest court in the nation issued a significant ruling while making a scathing remark about an Allahabad High Court judge during a hearing. Judge Prashant Kumar of the Allahabad High Court was the target of this ruling. Now, 13 High Court justices have banded together and sent Chief Justice Justice Arun Bhansali a letter requesting a full court hearing in opposition to the Supreme Court’s ruling.

Actually, 13 Allahabad High Court justices have sent Chief Justice Arun Bhansali a letter protesting the Supreme Court’s recent ruling in the Justice Prashant Kumar case and calling for a full court session. The Chief Justice of the Allahabad High Court was ordered to suspend Justice Prashant Kumar from hearing criminal cases after the Supreme Court panel, which comprised Justices JB Pardiwala and R Mahadevan, declared his judicial statements to be unacceptable on August 4, 2025. In addition, he needs to be assigned to the division bench beside a senior judge. During the hearing of a petition pertaining to a business dispute, this ruling was issued. The High Court dismissed the petitioner Shikhar Chemicals’ request to have the criminal proceedings against the company dismissed.
What was said by the Supreme Court?
The Supreme Court responded forcefully to Justice Prashant Kumar’s comments when it overturned the Allahabad High Court’s ruling. “We are shocked by the comments recorded in paragraph 12 of the decision,” the Supreme Court had said. The court even said that because civil procedures take a long time, it would be completely wrong to compel the complainant to choose legal remedies; thus, criminal actions may be permitted. Declaring this reasoning intolerable, the Supreme Court overturned the High Court’s ruling and directed that the matter be remanded to a different judge for review.
Call for the passage of a resolution overturning the Supreme Court’s ruling
The Allahabad High Court justices are very resentful of this Supreme Court ruling. Sources claim that Justice Arindam Sinha sent the Chief Justice a letter expressing his profound astonishment and anguish at this event. “Harsh remarks have been made against the concerned judge, and the order of August 4, 2025 was given without any notice,” he wrote. Since the Supreme Court lacks the authority to regulate the High Court’s administrative operations, he recommended that a full court meeting of the High Court be called and a resolution be passed stating that Prashant Kumar would not be removed from the criminal bench in accordance with the Supreme Court’s orders. He said that the Supreme Court’s order’s wording and tone should also be the subject of an objection. Twelve more judges have also signed this letter.
The Supreme Court will have another hearing
In the meanwhile, on August 4th, Justice Prashant Kumar’s work was modified. He will now appear alongside Justice MC Tripathi on August 7 and 8 to hear petitions pertaining to the environment, development authority, and land acquisition. The ‘Law Trend’ article claims that Justice Dinesh Pathak has now been given the criminal cases he previously handled. However, the case against Justice Prashant Kumar is still ongoing. It is scheduled for this Friday by the Supreme Court.
