Yesterday’s tragedy, which murdered innocent visitors and was one of the worst terror assaults since Article 370 was repealed in 2019, rocked not just Kashmir but the whole nation.

After arriving in Srinagar yesterday evening, the Union Home Minister convened a high-level security briefing with all the agencies involved in the Pahalgam terror incident earlier on Tuesday. Earlier, he said that those responsible for this heinous act of terror will not escape punishment. Prime Minister Narendra Modi was also informed of the situation by Amit Shah.

The terrorist assault on tourists in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, has angered me. My condolences are with the deceased’s family. We will impose the most severe penalties on those responsible for this heinous act of terror, and those involved will not escape punishment. The Home Minister posted on X, “I briefed PM Shri Narendra Modi Ji about the incident and held a meeting with the concerned officials via video conferencing.”

After the terrorist assault, Prime Minister Modi landed in New Delhi, ending his official visit to Saudi Arabia. Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman invited PM Modi to Saudi Arabia for a two-day state visit.

In light of the recent terrorist assault in Pahalgam, Kashmir, the Prime Minister met with Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval at the Palam Airport shortly after his arrival in Delhi.

In the meanwhile, political parties and merchants’ unions in the area have united today to demand a total shutdown throughout the Kashmir valley in support of the families of the dead and in condemnation of the assault.
