Attack on Supreme Court’s Dignity: Lawyers’ Body Condemns Shoe-Hurling Incident at CJI
Shoe-Hurling Incident at CJI: The episode of shoe-throwing at CJI Gavai has angered the Supreme Court attorneys’ organization. “We unanimously express our deepest regret and disapproval of this act by the lawyer,” said the Supreme Court Advocates on Record Association (SCOARA). The lawyer tried to disdain the position and power of the Honourable Chief Justice of India and his other justices with his inappropriate and uncalled-for gesture. This behavior is unacceptable for a member of the Bar, the statement said. It also violates the fundamental principle of respect for one another between the Bench and the Bar. As a result, it also damages the bond between attorneys and judges.

“The Supreme Court may take suo motu cognizance of the matter and take appropriate action for contempt of court,” the group said. According to the statement, the lawyer’s actions are a calculated endeavor to undermine the Supreme Court’s reputation and destroy its authority. Notably, a lawyer tried to throw a sneaker at Chief Justice B.R. Gavai during Monday’s Supreme Court sessions, according to attorneys. The event happened as a bench led by the Chief Justice was considering issues that the attorneys had brought forward.

The attorney went to the platform, removed his shoe, and tried to hurl it at the judge. The attempt was swiftly prevented by alert security guards in the courtroom. The attorney was removed from the court grounds right away. During his removal, he was heard yelling, “We will not tolerate the insult of Sanatan Dharma.”
How did the CJI respond
The CJI remained composed after the event and encouraged the attorneys in the courtroom to go on with their arguments. “Don’t get sidetracked by this,” he urged. We’re not preoccupied. These things have no bearing on me. The event is being investigated by the Supreme Court’s security section. The reason for the lawyer’s actions is yet unknown.
