Large-Scale Deployment Across Polling Stations

The election process will cover a vast network of 75,064 polling stations operating within 33,133 centres. These facilities are set to serve more than 5.67 crore registered voters. To manage the process efficiently, over three lakh polling staff have been assigned duties, supported by more than 8,300 police personnel tasked with maintaining security and order throughout the voting period.

Authorities have also ensured sufficient electronic voting equipment. Over 1.06 lakh ballot units, along with control units and VVPAT machines, have been distributed across polling booths. Additional reserves, ranging between 20 and 30 percent, are in place to address any unexpected technical or operational issues.

Voter Demographics and Participation Trends

The electorate in Tamil Nadu stands at 5,67,07,380 individuals. Women make up a slightly larger share, with 2,89,60,838 registered voters compared to 2,77,38,925 men. This marks a continued trend of strong female participation in the state’s democratic process.

A notable feature of this election is the inclusion of more than 14.5 lakh first-time voters, reflecting a growing engagement among younger citizens. Meanwhile, postal voting has already seen significant activity, with over 4.18 lakh ballots submitted ahead of polling day.

Enhanced Security and Monitoring Measures

Security arrangements have been given top priority, particularly in areas identified as sensitive. A total of 3,025 locations, covering 5,049 polling booths, have been classified as vulnerable. Additional forces and surveillance mechanisms have been deployed in these regions.

To strengthen oversight, officials have established a four-tier control room system. A public helpline, 1950, has been activated to assist voters and address queries. Separate monitoring units have also been set up to oversee media coverage and ensure compliance with election regulations.

Focus on Inclusivity and Voter सुविधा

Efforts have been made to improve accessibility and voter experience at polling stations. A total of 249 model polling booths have been introduced, featuring special themes and enhanced facilities. Some of these booths are entirely managed by women, persons with disabilities, and young volunteers, promoting inclusivity and representation.

Additionally, green polling stations have been introduced as part of environmentally conscious initiatives. For the first time, voters will also have access to a secure deposit system at polling locations, allowing them to store mobile phones before entering voting areas.

Crackdown on Violations and Electoral Integrity

Authorities have taken strict action against electoral malpractice during the campaign period. Record seizures have been reported, with cash and goods worth Rs 1,262 crore intercepted, including Rs 543 crore officially confiscated. More than 2,180 online links associated with violations have also been removed or blocked.

The revision of electoral rolls led to the removal of nearly 70 lakh names, ensuring updated and accurate voter lists. Complaints received through the cVIGIL app have been actively addressed, with only a small number still pending within the prescribed timeframe.

Political Contest Intensifies Ahead of Voting

The upcoming election is marked by a multi-cornered contest involving several major players. The ruling party, led by the current Chief Minister, is aiming to retain power for a second term. Meanwhile, the principal opposition is seeking to regain its position after multiple electoral setbacks in recent years.

New entrants and smaller parties are also adding to the competitive landscape. A prominent actor-turned-politician is making an electoral debut, while other regional leaders continue to contest independently or through alliances, contributing to a dynamic and closely watched political battle.

Vote counting is scheduled to take place at 62 centres across the state once polling concludes, with results expected to shape the state’s political direction in the coming years.
