Zelenskyy commends the US-Ukraine rare earth minerals agreement

Kyiv: President Volodymyr Zelenskyy referred to the agreement as an equal partnership and emphasized its advantages, which include substantial investment, industrial modernization, and a new Reconstruction Fund, following the signing of an economic partnership agreement between the US and Ukraine that gives Washington access to Ukraine’s rare earth minerals in exchange for an investment fund.

“Today, our government team reported on the economic partnership with the United States,” Zelenskyy said in a post shared on X on Thursday. We’ve made a deal. The signed document will be sent to the Verkhovna Rada for approval. Additionally, we want there to be no delays.

“Every one of our delegates performed well. The planning process has resulted in major changes to the agreement. The relationship is now more balanced, allowing for large investments in Ukraine and the modernization of its industry and legal system. The arrangement anticipates no debt. It calls for the creation of a Reconstruction Fund that will make investments in Ukraine and produce profits there. This approach entails cooperative collaboration with America on equitable terms, enabling Ukraine and the US, which backs us in our defense efforts, to profit together,” the article said.

The Ukrainian president went on to describe the agreement as the first concrete result of their Vatican City summit.

“During our meeting in the Vatican, President Trump and I spoke about how ready we are to finalize this accord. The accord is indeed the first concrete result of the Vatican conference, which makes it historic. President Trump and I made the most of that meeting, and we look forward to future developments. For that, I am grateful to him. And once again, I want to thank the American and Ukrainian teams,” Zelenskyy stated.

The United States and Ukraine have been attempting to reach a natural resources deal since President Trump took office in January. After weeks of rigorous discussions that sometimes became acrimonious and momentarily halted US funding to Ukraine, the two countries reached an agreement.

The deal was signed by both countries, according to the US Treasury Department on Wednesday. “The United States is committed to helping facilitate the end of this cruel and senseless war,” said US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent in a statement.

People expected Zelenskyy to sign the deal during his visit to the United States in February. But after the controversial Oval Office encounter, his visit was cut short, and the pact was never signed.
