Trump’s former adviser explains why Sergio Gor was appointed US ambassador to India
Former US President Donald Trump’s top advisor during his first term, Steve Bannon, has praised the choice to choose the president’s close aide, Sergio Gor, as the next US Ambassador to India, stating that it was advantageous for both nations.

“Sergio has been at my side for many years and is a fantastic buddy. He wrote my best-selling books, worked on my historic presidential campaigns, and managed one of the largest Super PACs that backed our movement,” Trump said. “It is crucial that I have someone I can completely rely on to carry out my agenda and assist us in making America great once more for the most populated region in the world.”
The new ambassador to India and special envoy for South and Central Asian Affairs is Gor, Trump’s personal buddy and White House personnel director. His creation of one of the biggest Super PACs to aid Trump’s campaign is just one example of how he has influenced his political activities.
Gor has a tense relationship with erstwhile Trump adviser-turned-enemy Elon Musk, who referred to him as a “snake.” However, Gor is in the president’s good graces for enforcing a zero-tolerance policy for job hopefuls who have previously criticized Trump.
“A Strong Signal For India”
Gor was nominated at a time when Trump’s 50% tariffs on India, together with an extra 25% duty for buying Russian oil that will take effect on August 28, are straining ties between the US and India.
Gors’ appointment as the new US ambassador to India was praised by Bannon. He told Politico, “I think Sergio is the only person who actually has walk-in privileges to the president at any time, day or night, aside from (White House Chief of Staff) Susie (Wiles) and a few others.”
As someone who strongly supports that relationship, I can’t think of a better choice if I were Prime Minister Narendra Modi of India. Does he possess a thorough understanding of Indian policy matters? He’s a fast student, but he doesn’t. He has a special trust in addition to having access to the president. The president has faith that this man is handling him honestly,” he said.
Trump is “sending a powerful signal to the Modi government by sending an envoy that is very personally close to him” with Gore’s nomination, according to a source familiar with the situation.
The individual told the US-based source, “Sergio is a clear signal that the negotiations need to be serious and that all messages come from the president.”
Gor wrote on X that it would be the “honor of my life” to serve the United States in India and praised Trump for his “incredible trust and confidence” in his selection. Eric Garcetti, who was ambassador from May 11, 2023, until January 20, 2025, will be replaced by him.
