Paris: French President Emmanuel Macron congratulated Pope Leo XIV on his election triumph. Macron wished for peace and optimism under the incoming papacy.

“A historic moment for the Catholic Church and its millions of faithful,” he said in a post on X. I send a message of brotherhood to Pope Leo XIV and to all Catholics in France and the globe. May this new papacy be one of hope and peace on this May 8th. Additionally, US President Donald Trump hailed the new Pope earlier in the day.

“Congratulations to Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost, who was just named Pope,” he said in a post on Truth Social. Realizing that he is the first American Pope is such an honor. What a great honor for our nation, and what a thrill. I’m excited to see Pope Leo XIV. It will be a time of great significance.

US Vice President JD Vance congratulated the first American Pope, Leo XIV, on his election earlier in the day.

Vance said he hoped that millions of Catholics and other Christians in America would pray for him to be successful in his role as head of the Church.

He wrote, X: “Congratulations on the election of the first American Pope, Leo XIV! Millions of Catholics and other Christians in America will undoubtedly pray for him to lead the Church successfully. God bless him.

Robert Prevost was elected as the first American pope by the Vatican conclave on Thursday, according to Vatican News. Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost, 69, was chosen by the cardinals assembled in the Sistine Chapel at the Vatican to serve as the 267th pope, also known as Pope Leo XIV. He is the first Catholic leader to be an American.
