Washington, DC: Afghan families seeking to reconnect with loved ones have been crushed by US President Donald Trump‘s new travel restriction on nationals from 12 countries, including Afghanistan, which has caused widespread anxiety and uncertainty, according to Khaama Press.

Rights groups and refugee populations are alarmed by the presidential order, which was signed on Wednesday. Refugee aid organization AfghanEvac denounced the action as a “political performance,” describing it as a “moral disgrace and insult” to soldiers and US allies. According to Khaama Press, the International Rescue Committee (IRC) also called the ruling “inhumane and unjust,” saying it arbitrarily splits families who have already endured years of relocation and violence.
Jim Ray, a Colombia-based Afghan refugee advocate, said that the prohibition would keep many Afghan families apart permanently. “The return of the Taliban already changed US engagement with Afghanistan,” he said. “We must wait and see how this ban will be implemented in practice.”
Almost nine years ago, Mohammad Sharafuddin applied for asylum in the United States with the intention of rescuing his nephew. He told ABC News, “It was shocking to hear Afghanistan included,” alluding to the continued misery endured by Afghan women under Taliban control. ” I’m not prepared to give him a call. The news is awful. He wants to come and is nervous. He said, “I’m not sure how to explain this to him.”
Opponents contend that the prohibition goes against American humanitarian ideals and hurts Afghan partners who backed American efforts. According to Khaama Press, veteran diplomats and rights organizations are now pleading with the Biden administration to reconsider and maybe revoke the executive order.
The time to flee persecution and start over in the United States is running out for many Afghan families who are stuck in limbo, Khaama Press continued.
