Days after the massive earthquake in Russia, another one hits the Kamchatka coast

Russia: Another 6.0-magnitude earthquake occurred in Russia on Tuesday, just six days after a strong 8.8-magnitude earthquake rocked the Far Eastern Kamchatka coast.

This followed an 8.8 magnitude earthquake off the coast of Kamchatka, Russia, on July 30 that sent tsunami warnings throughout the Pacific Ocean, putting countries like Chile, Japan, and the US on high alert and urging millions to flee. The peninsula’s most active volcano also erupted after the earthquake.

While sections of Hawaii and most of Japan’s eastern shore, which was ravaged by a 9.0 magnitude earthquake and tsunami in 2011, were advised to evacuate, the triggers had destroyed structures and wounded a number of individuals in the isolated Russian area.

Around 11:25 a.m. local time on July 30, the US Geological Survey (USGS) reports that the powerful 8.8 earthquake occurred on the Kamchatka Peninsula in Russia, approximately 74 miles (119 kilometers) southeast of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky city. It is tied for the sixth-strongest recorded earthquake.

The Kuril Islands were rocked earlier on August 3 by an earthquake with a magnitude of 6.7, according to a statement from the National Center for Seismology (NCS).
