Chinese Foreign Ministry urges India and Pakistan to exercise restraint
Beijing: Lin Jian, a spokesman for China’s Foreign Ministry, has voiced concern over recent events and urged India and Pakistan to act in the greater interest of peace and stability, adhere to international law, including the UN Charter, maintain composure, use restraint, and avoid taking any actions that could make matters worse.

Lin Jian said at a news conference on Thursday that China is willing to cooperate with the international community to keep playing a “constructive role” in reducing tensions between the two countries. He reaffirmed China’s opposition to terrorism in all its manifestations.
“We shared China’s position yesterday on the ongoing situation between India and Pakistan,” he said in response to a question about Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s declaration that his country will retaliate against India’s attacks. China is worried about what is happening right now. India and Pakistan have been and will continue to be neighbors.
Both of them are also China’s neighbors. China is against terrorism in all its manifestations. We urge both parties to behave in the greater interest of peace and stability, to abide by international law, particularly the UN Charter, to maintain composure, to be restrained, and to abstain from acts that may make matters more complicated. We are prepared to collaborate with the rest of the world community in order to keep contributing positively to the reduction of the present tensions,” he said.
After the terrorist assault in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, on April 22, tensions between India and Pakistan have increased. On May 7, the Indian Armed Forces responded to the Pahalgam terror assault by launching precise strikes on Pakistan’s terror infrastructure in Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir. Indian soldiers conducted Operation Sindoor, which effectively struck nine terror locations.
The Indian Army said that repeated drone assaults and ceasefire breaches by Pakistan along the western border and the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir were effectively repulsed and forcefully reacted to by the Indian Army during the intervening night of May 8 and 9.
The drone assaults were “effectively neutralized,” and the ceasefire breaches were promptly addressed, according to a post on X on Friday by the Additional Directorate General of Public Information (ADG PI). The ADG PI said that the Indian Armed Forces’ effective reaction was part of Operation Sindoor, which was initiated early on Wednesday and saw the Armed Forces destroy nine terror facilities in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.
“On the intervening nights of May 8 and 9, 2025, the Pakistan Armed Forces conducted many strikes throughout the whole Western Border utilizing drones and other weaponry. Along the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir, Pakistani forces also engaged in a number of ceasefire violations (CFVs). The drone strikes were successfully repelled, and the CFVs received a suitable response. The Indian Army is still dedicated to defending the country’s territorial integrity and sovereignty. The Army said, “We will respond with force to all evil schemes.”
According to sources who spoke to the media, the Indian Army conducted a massive counter-drone operation at the LoC and International Borders (IB) earlier on Thursday, shooting down over 50 Pakistani drones. Following Pakistan’s unsuccessful efforts to deliver several swarm drones into Indian territory in various areas, the operation was initiated.
