An earthquake measuring 4.1 on the Richter scale hit Tajikistan
Dushanbe: According to a National Centre for Seismology (NCS) statement, Tajikistan was hit by an earthquake on Tuesday with a Richter Scale value of 4.1. According to the NCS, the earthquake happened 10 km below the surface, rendering it vulnerable to aftershocks.

The NCS said in a post on X that “EQ of M: 4.1, On: 22/04/2025 10:34:19 IST, Lat: 39.07 N, Long: 70.67 E, Depth: 10 Km, Location: Tajikistan.”

Three earthquakes shook the area earlier Monday.
“EQ of M: 4.0, On: 21/04/2025 11:47:05 IST, Lat: 38.09 N, Long: 68.83 E, Depth: 10 Km, Location: Tajikistan,” said the NCS.
The area was hit by another 4.0-magnitude earthquake.
In a message to X, NCS said, “EQ of M: 4.0, On: 21/04/2025 02:04:36 IST, Lat: 39.10 N, Long: 70.60 E, Depth: 30 Km, Location: Tajikistan.”

Tajikistan experienced another earthquake in the early hours of Monday.
“EQ of M: 4.2, On: 21/04/2025 01:50:34 IST, Lat: 39.08 N, Long: 70.62 E, Depth: 10 Km, Location: Tajikistan,” according to the NCS.
An earthquake occurred in the area on April 19.
“EQ of M: 4.2, On: 19/04/2025 15:52:09 IST, Lat: 38.90 N, Long: 70.62 E, Depth: 10 Km, Location: Tajikistan,” said the NCS.
In contrast to deeper earthquakes, which lose energy as they approach the surface, shallow earthquakes are more destructive because they release more energy closer to the ground, resulting in harsher ground shaking, more damage to buildings, and more fatalities.
With its varied geography and mountains, Tajikistan is particularly susceptible to climate-related risks. Earthquakes, floods, droughts, avalanches, landslides, and mudslides are all common there. The most vulnerable regions include isolated forests with steep and riverine topography, which makes them susceptible to landslides and land degradation; delicate mountain ecosystems; and glacier-dependent river basins that provide hydropower and water supplies for agriculture.
