The security forces had begun operations to eradicate militants across the Kashmir valley after the Pahalgam terrorist strike. During Tuesday night’s counter-infiltration operation in Baramulla, there was a fierce gunfight between the security forces and militants.

The commander of 161 Infantry Brigade, Brigadier Mayank Shukla, said that a counter-infiltration operation was conducted Tuesday evening. The movement of Pakistani militants in the Uri region was reported to the security forces. The Indian army was informed that terrorists were present at a launchpad close to Uri Nallah on the intervening night of April 22 and 23.

Terrorists’ movements close to the Line of Control were monitored, as was their crossing of the line at approximately three in the morning. Two hours of nonstop gunfire later, the security forces ambushed and killed two terrorists. Both terrorists were found to have two AK rifles, a 9mm Chinese handgun, magazines, and a significant amount of ammo.

“We conducted a counter-infiltration operation last night. Over the last several days, our intelligence agencies have been providing our security forces with constant updates about the activities of Pakistani terrorists in the Uri area. Brigadier Shukla informed reporters that the Indian army learned of the terrorists’ location at a launchpad close to the Uri nallah on the intervening night of April 22 and 23 at around one in the morning.

“We repositioned and redeployed our ambush groups, drones, and surveillance. We traced the movement of terrorists close to the Line of Control, and after two hours of fire, we ambushed and killed two terrorists as they crossed the line at approximately three in the morning. In this deep woodland, our security agents conducted search and sanitization operations.

They are being sought by the police in Jammu and Kashmir. Two AK rifles, a 9mm Chinese handgun, magazines, and a significant amount of ammo were found among their weapons. Furthermore, one 10-kilogram IED has also been found,” he said.

The terrorists’ heinous assault on tourists in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, on Tuesday claimed the lives of up to 26 persons.

Terrorists carried out one of the bloodiest attacks in the Valley since the 2019 Pulwama incident, which claimed the lives of 40 CRPF jawans, at Baisaran Meadow in Pahalgam on Tuesday. Following the repeal of Article 370 in 2019, the incident was among the most significant acts of terrorism in the area.
