Security tightened in Rabindra Nagar area of South 24 Parganas in West Bengal
Kolkata: Following a fight between police and criminals yesterday, security was stepped up Thursday in the Rabindra Nagar neighborhood of South 24 Parganas in West Bengal.

A Shiva temple in Ward No. 7, Maheshtala, which is part of the Metiabruz legislative constituency, close to Rabindra Nagar Police Station, was vandalized, according to Suvendu Adhikari, the Leader of the Opposition (LoP) in the West Bengal legislature, and senior BJP officials in the state.
On Thursday, Adhikari made contact with the DGP of West Bengal and the SP of the Diamond Harbour Police District in order to go to Maheshtala and speak with the Hindu families’ victims.
Adhikari said in a post on X that the visit is a start toward comprehending the complaints of impacted Hindu families and shops and making sure their opinions are heard.
In order to visit Maheshtala under Rabindranagar Police Station today with an MLA to meet and show solidarity with the victims of the Hindu families and the impacted Hindu shopkeepers who were attacked by the Jihadis yesterday, I have made contact with the SP of Diamond Harbour Police District and the DGP @WBPolice. Understanding their complaints and making sure their views are heard are the goals of this visit. “I hope that the Administration doesn’t obstruct my visit,” Adhikari posted on X.
This occurs months after demonstrations over the Waqf Board Amendment Act sparked violence in several areas of West Bengal.
Suvendu Adhikari, the Leader of the Opposition in the West Bengal Assembly, had earlier on Tuesday said that the Trinamool Congress is transforming the state into a “valley of extremists” and only offers complete support to terrorism.
Mamata Banerjee, the chief minister of West Bengal, reportedly made a comment on the Pulwama incident, to which Adhikari responded.
“The TMC party fully supports extremism and terrorism… Adhikari said that members of Mamata Banerjee’s party were shielding and transforming Bengal into a valley of radicals.
A resolution expressing gratitude to the Indian military for their recent action against terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) was approved by the West Bengal Assembly on Tuesday.
The resolution passed by the state Legislative Assembly on Tuesday also denounced the terror attack that killed 26 persons, mostly tourists, in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir (J-K), on April 22.
