The Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) said in a post on X that the culprit, Jodhbir Singh, a native of Naushera in the Tarn Taran area, was captured after a particular intelligence input.

Five handguns, including two PX5s, .30 bore (Star marked), and two 9mm Glocks, were found in Singh’s hands by the police.

According to preliminary investigations, Jodhbir Singh reportedly had connections with a narcotics dealer from Pakistan who helped bring illicit firearms into India.

The State Special Operation Cell (SSOC) in Amritsar has received a formal complaint. Singh’s accomplices have been the subject of further investigations by Punjab Police, who are also working to track down the network’s whole backward and forward links.

The DGP emphasized in his message that “Punjab Police remains firmly committed to maintaining peace and harmony across the state.”

Following a short skirmish outside of Ramdas city, Amritsar Rural Police earlier on Monday said that they had captured two members of a terror cell along with their weapons.

“In a major success against terror networks, @AmritsarRPolice apprehends two operatives of the Jiwan Fauji terror module after a brief encounter near Ramdas, Amritsar Rural,” said Gaurav Yadav, the director general of police for Punjab, in a social media post.

“During a pursuit, the accused—Vishhal Masih and Lovepreet Singh @ Love, both of whom live in Jafarkot—opened fire on police officers but were quickly routed by a well-coordinated retaliatory attack. They were found in possession of explosives and weapons,” DGP Yadav said.

Counter-Intelligence Amritsar dismantled an illicit weapon smuggling network with ties to Pakistan on April 27 in response to a particular tip. After arresting Abhishek Kumar from Amritsar, it seized seven handguns, four .30 bore live cartridges, and Rs. 150,000.

According to the police, Jassa, an Australian, works closely with smugglers from Pakistan to plan the smuggling of illicit weapons and ammunition over the Indo-Pak border with the assistance of his local colleagues, Jodhbir Singh and Abhishek Kumar. Abhishek Kumar and Jodhbir Singh are also implicated in Hawala transactions, according to an initial inquiry, suggesting that they are part of a larger criminal network.
