“You encounter Muslims in Saudi Arabia despite your anti-Muslim views… Whose hospitality would you accept if you visited Dubai, United Arab Emirates? Speaking to the crowd at a meeting with Muslim clerics, Banerjee added, “You say one thing in your country and another outside.”

She also urged the INDIA group to “stay united and fight together” in opposition to the Waqf Amendment Act, which has been met with demonstrations and significant opposition.

“I’ll make a plea to the Indian bloc: let’s remain together and bravely battle together. Everyone will be impacted by this; it is not a personal issue. It’s occurring against you today. It will be against someone else tomorrow. The chief minister of West Bengal said, “They now wish to bring UCC.”

The Supreme Court voiced worry over unrest in the Murshidabad region of West Bengal on Wednesday and hinted that it would issue an interim injunction to halt some of the most important aspects of the newly approved Waqf (Amendment) Act, 2025.

A three-judge panel consisting of Justices PV Sanjay Kumar, KV Viswanathan, and Chief Justice of India Sanjiv Khanna stated, “The violence that is occurring is quite upsetting. The court is considering the matter, and we will make a decision.

Although the bench did not issue an order, it recommended that several aspects be suspended, such as the ability of collectors to resolve disputes over Waqf assets, the involvement of non-Muslims in the Central Waqf Council and Waqf Boards, and the regulations pertaining to de-notifying properties that have been proclaimed waqf by courts.

A number of petitions contesting the constitutionality of the Waqf (Amendment) Act, 2025, were being heard by the highest court.

The bench said during the hearing that it is thinking about issuing an interim order that would balance the equity.

Following contentious discussions in both Houses, Parliament enacted the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2025, which President Droupadi Murmu signed into law on April 5.
