Madhya Pradesh government formed SIT to investigate controversial remarks made by BJP leader Kunwar Vijay Shah

Bhopal: To look into the contentious statements made by Kunwar Vijay Shah, the leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the state cabinet’s minister of tribal affairs, the Madhya Pradesh government has formed a three-member Special Investigation Team (SIT).

This comes after the Supreme Court strongly criticized Shah for calling Colonel Sofiya Qureshi a “sister of terrorists” and ordered the Madhya Pradesh government to assemble a Special Investigation Team (SIT) consisting of three IPS officers, including a woman officer.

The SIT must include three senior IPS officers from the Madhya Pradesh cadre who are now employed in the state but were not originally from it, according to a bench made up of Justices Surya Kant and N. Kotiswar Singh. Additionally, the court mandated that one of the policemen be female.

The Director General of Police was directed by the Supreme Court to form the SIT by May 20.

The minister’s comments were deemed “filthy, crass, and shameful” by the court, which also dismissed Shah’s public apologies as being lackluster. “You, Shah, are a source of disgrace for the country. It is up to you to seek redemption,” Justice Surya Kant said.

The judge ordered Shah to participate and assist fully with the inquiry, but it also deferred his detention.

The bench made it plain that it would closely follow the matter even though it said that it would not be personally involved in the probe.

The case has been scheduled for hearing on May 28 and the SIT has been requested to provide a progress report on the investigation.

Earlier, Congressman Umang Singhar and Madhya Pradesh’s Leader of the Opposition (LoP) praised the Supreme Court’s ruling.

“I applaud the Supreme Court’s ruling,” he stated. I can state that the Apex Court made this decision on the army’s honor. However, neither the federal administration nor the state governments of the Bharatiya Janata Party woke up; the court did, but they did not. Although the Supreme Court ruled that the minister’s comment was unworthy of apology, the BJP believes it should be, which is why the state government hasn’t yet demanded the minister’s resignation.
