Bengaluru: In a letter to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Brijesh Chowta, State Secretary of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and a member of parliament from Dakshina Kannada, asked that the National Investigation Agency (NIA) be given control of the Suhas Shetty murder case. The murder rocked the whole coastal Karnataka area, according to Chowta’s letter.

“The appalling and callous murder of VHP karyakarta Shri Suhas Shetty in Bajpe on the evening of May 1st, 2025, has caused me immense distress and significant anxiety, which is why I am writing this letter to you. The people of the whole coastal Karnataka area have been deeply disturbed by this heinous conduct, which was committed in public with impunity,” he added.

According to Chowta, the episode was not unique but rather reflected a larger pattern of rising radicalism, lawlessness, and anti-national sentiment.

“The coastal Karnataka area continues to see an increasing trend of lawlessness, strengthened Islamic extremism, and anti-national groups; this event is not an isolated one. PFI members have been pursuing Praveen Nettaru, a dedicated and selfless BJP karyakarta, for murder in recent years. Our government, led by Sri Narendra Modi, ultimately outlawed the group. He continued, “Now another young Hindu life has been put out in the same way. He said that Suhas Shetty’s family is inconsolable and is fighting for justice.

“As their elected representative, and as someone who has personally witnessed the pain and desperation that grips the region today, I appeal to you with utmost urgency and sincerity that this case be handed over to the National Investigation Agency (NIA) for a comprehensive and impartial investigation, as there is a possibility of involvement of activists from the banned PFI organization,” he stated.

Chowta said, “We must get to the bottom of this conspiracy, dismantle these networks, and restore the faith of the people in the rule of law.”

“I request you to personally intervene in this matter and ensure that all those involved, not just the perpetrators but also those who supported and financed them, are brought to justice swiftly and decisively,” the letter said.
