“EQ of M: 2.4, On: 16/04/2025 05:14:52 IST, Lat: 33.18 N, Long: 75.89 E, Depth: 5 Km, Location: Kishtwar, Jammu & Kashmir,” stated the NCS post on X.

In addition, early on Wednesday morning, earthquakes with magnitudes of 5.9 and 2.9 struck Bangladesh and Afghanistan, respectively.

Afghanistan is still very susceptible to landslides, earthquakes, and seasonal floods, according to the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UNOCHA).

According to UNOCHA, these frequent earthquakes in Afghanistan harm vulnerable populations who are already struggling with decades of underdevelopment and violence, making them less equipped to handle many shocks at once.

According to the Red Cross, Afghanistan has a history of strong earthquakes, and the Hindu Kush Mountain range is a geologically active region where quakes happen often. The nation is situated on many fault lines that connect the Eurasian and Indian tectonic plates, one of which passes straight through Herat.
