Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge demands strict punishment against the culprits after the attack on tourists

New Delhi: Following the assault on tourists in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge on Wednesday demanded that those responsible be severely punished. He said that in order to assess the situation, he had spoken with Omar Abdullah, the chief minister of Jammu & Kashmir; Home Minister Amit Shah; and top INC Congress officials in the region.

He wrote on X, “Late last night, spoke with Union Home Minister Shri @AmitShah, J&K Chief Minister Shri @OmarAbdullah, along with senior Congress leaders of @INCJammuKashmir about the despicable carnage in Pahalgam.”

The perpetrators of this horrific act of violence must not go unpunished, he urged. stating, “this sort of cross-border terror attack should be responded to with an adequate and resolute reply.”

“This horrific terror attack’s perpetrators must face consequences. Justice must be served to the innocent victims. In the face of hardship, unity in action is urgently needed. He wrote, “We must respond to this cross-border terror attack with a sufficient and determined response.”

He concluded by highlighting the need for the GOI to work with all political parties to maintain security in Jammu and Kashmir and to do all within its power to protect visitors.

Rahul Gandhi, a Lok Sabha LoP and Congress MP, had already spoken with Shah to assess the situation after the Pahalgam terror incident. The Congress leader also discussed the recent terror incident in Pahalgam with Tariq Karra, the president of the J-K Pradesh Congress Committee, and Omar Abdullah, the chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir.

Gandhi advocated justice and assistance for the assault victims in a social media post on X. “Discussed the horrifying Pahalgam terror assault with J&K PCC President Tariq Karra, J&K CM Omar Abdullah, and HM Amit Shah. received a situational update. Gandhi wrote on X, “Victims’ families deserve justice and our undivided support.”

A number of Jammu and Kashmiri political parties have endorsed the demand for a Kashmir Bandh (shutdown) on Wednesday in reaction to the recent terror attack in Pahalgam in order to denounce the incident and express sympathy with the families of the dead.

The attack, which targeted visitors in the Anantnag district’s Pahalgam region, caused national indignation. Numerous political figures denounced the assault.

The local community has strongly denounced this act. In protest of the incident, taxi drivers in Pahalgam marched by candlelight. In protest of Tuesday’s terror incident in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir residents participated in a candlelight march at a number of locations around the state.

Locals protested the terror attack in Jammu, while Bajrang Dal members marched by candlelight in Baramulla, Srinagar, Poonch, Akhnoor, and Kupwara.

After the terrorist assault in Pahalgam, Union Home Minister Amit Shah presided over a high-level security conference that included representatives from various agencies. Tuesday night, Minister Shah arrived in Srinagar for a discussion on the security assessment. Earlier, he said that those responsible for this heinous act of terror will not escape punishment.

To find the attackers, the Indian Army and the Jammu and Kashmir Police have begun a search in the Baisran, Pahalgam, and Anantnag general region. Additionally, the Delhi Police have been directed to closely monitor tourist destinations and other significant locations.
