Congress is accused by the Union Law Minister of damaging ED offices
Udaipur: Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal accused Congress workers on Monday of damaging government property during a protest against the Enforcement Directorate’s designation of Rahul Gandhi, the leader of the opposition in the Lok Sabha, and Sonia Gandhi, the chairperson of the Congress Parliamentary Party (CPP), as defendants in the National Herald case.

“This problem has been there for a while. We haven’t created ED; it was created during the period of Congress. ED is performing its job. Signboards and other government property are being vandalized when members of Congress enter ED offices. Members of Congress are damaging public property in the name of protest. “They should use the appropriate platform if they wish to express their opinions,” Meghwal said at the Udaipur news conference.
His comments coincide with the Congress party holding news conferences around the country to refute the ED chargesheet against its leaders.
Calling the demonstrations a “pressure tactic,” the Union Minister advised anybody who disagreed with the procedure to take legal action.
“There is a platform for the ED or CBI inquiry, and they have the option to appear in court. What is this tactic of pressure that says we are more powerful than the la”w? Are Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi exempt from the law?” he asked.
Top Congressmen Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi were the targets of a prosecution complaint (chargesheet) issued by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on April 15 in relation to the National Herald money laundering case.
Top Congress leaders have now accused the Bharatiya Janata Party of abusing the Directorate, sparking widespread demonstrations against the agency.
From April 21–27, the party will protest the Enforcement Directorate’s (ED) chargesheet by holding a series of news conferences in 57 locations.
The “Congress Truths, BJP Lies” campaign sets out to refute what the party claims is a politically driven action by the BJP administration. As a living reminder of India’s liberation fight, Pawan Khera, Chairman of the AICC’s Media & Publicity Department, referred to the ED’s chargesheet as “an anti-national effort” by the BJP to destroy The National Herald’s heritage.
