Air quality in Delhi remain poor and AQI reaches 301
New Delhi: On Friday, Delhi’s air quality deteriorated, scoring an AQI of 301, a level considered “very poor.” The air quality is declining due to an abrupt increase in dust pollution.

The Central Pollution Control Board reports that at 7 a.m. today, Delhi’s total AQI was 301. ‘Terrible’ is the classification given to an AQI between 301 and 400. The majority of the monitoring sites had AQIs that fell into the worst range. The relative AQI values of Anant Vihar, Ashok Vihar, and Aya Nagar were 352, 322, and 333.
Significant dust was brought in from Rajasthan by the abrupt wind gusts that swept over Palam and the surrounding districts at rates of 30 to 40 kmph, according to the IMD. The national capital’s air quality unexpectedly declined in May as a result of this.
A political spat broke out over the deteriorating air quality, with the AAP accusing the BJP administration of breaking its electoral pledges to provide clean air in only three months.
On ‘X,’ the Aam Aadmi Party’s official account shared the following: “Delhi-NCR was engulfed in smog in May alone. In several parts of Delhi-NCR, the AQI has been over 500 in May alone, and the air is contaminated with dust and other pollutants. This has never occurred before. Delhi and every neighboring state have BJP administrations, yet none of them are taking any action to cut pollution.
AAP National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal posted a news item on the concerning AQI values on the social networking site ‘X,’ writing, “Air pollution was never this bad during the AAP regime at this time of year.”
Former Delhi Chief Minister Atishi claimed that the AQI had exceeded 500 on Thursday morning, which prompted Delhi Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa to take aim at him.
Sirsa stepped up his criticism of Atishi, claiming that the BJP was curing the illnesses that the Aam Aadmi Party government had caused over the previous ten years.
“I am really shocked that Atishi has been the chief minister and that she is tweeting things like, ‘Today, the weather department warned of thunderstorms and storms. Will we now be held responsible for these storms’?” Manjinder Singh Sirsa remarked. Atishi’s expectations of us, however, are a positive thing. However, we shall do everything in our power to purify Delhi’s air of the “disease” that “AAP-da” has given us for the last ten years.”
