Energy – Jammu and Kashmir Government Reassures Public on Fuel Availability
Energy – Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has sought to calm public concerns by confirming that there is no shortage of essential fuels and household energy supplies across the Union Territory. He stated that items such as LPG cylinders, petrol, diesel, and kerosene remain adequately available, supported by uninterrupted supply arrangements ensured by the central government.

Appeal to Avoid Panic Buying
Speaking to reporters after participating in a virtual meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Chief Minister urged citizens to remain cautious about misinformation. He noted that rumours circulating in recent days had triggered unnecessary panic, leading to long queues at petrol pumps and gas distribution centres.
Abdullah emphasised that such reactions were avoidable and could create temporary disruptions in otherwise stable supply systems. He reassured residents that authorities are closely tracking the situation and taking timely measures to prevent any inconvenience.
Continuous Monitoring of Supply Situation
The Chief Minister highlighted that the administration is reviewing the availability of essential commodities on a daily basis. According to him, there has been no disruption in the distribution network, and supplies are being maintained smoothly across districts.
He underlined that both urban and rural areas are receiving adequate quantities of fuel and cooking gas, and there is no need for residents to stockpile. Officials are also coordinating with suppliers to ensure that distribution remains consistent even during periods of increased demand.
High-Level Meeting Reviews Global Impact
Providing insights into the virtual meeting, Abdullah said it involved chief ministers and senior officials from across the country. The discussion focused on preparedness in light of ongoing tensions in the Middle East and their possible implications for global energy markets.
During the session, the Cabinet Secretary presented an overview of the international situation, particularly developments around the Strait of Hormuz, a key route for global oil shipments. The potential impact of these developments on fuel availability and pricing was also examined.
The meeting stressed the importance of maintaining stable supplies of essential commodities, especially fuel, in the face of global uncertainties.
Gradual Improvement in LPG Supply
Abdullah shared that, at the initial stage of the international crisis, supplies of commercial LPG cylinders had been temporarily reduced to 20 percent. However, the situation has since improved significantly, with availability now increased to around 70 percent.
He added that domestic LPG supply for households has remained unaffected and continues at full capacity. This, he said, reflects the government’s priority to ensure that basic needs of residents are not compromised under any circumstances.
Confidence in Government Preparedness
Reiterating the administration’s readiness to deal with emerging challenges, the Chief Minister expressed confidence in the coordinated efforts between the central and local governments. He said that the country has previously demonstrated its ability to manage crises effectively, citing the collective response during the COVID-19 pandemic as an example.
According to Abdullah, the Prime Minister encouraged all states and Union Territories to remain united and proactive in addressing any difficulties that may arise due to global developments.
He concluded by assuring the public that there is no cause for concern and urged everyone to rely on verified information rather than speculation. The administration, he said, remains fully committed to ensuring uninterrupted access to essential commodities for all residents
